TIPS ON USING RUBBER ROADBED
PHYSICAL INSTALLATION
Roadbed is easily cut with scissors to perfectly fit custom length track sections.
Non standard Track Tie spacing can be accommodated by sliding the ties along the rails.
Clearance for track trips, uncouplers, etc. is easily provided by cutting small sections from the roadbed.
No roadbed is required underneath switches. The switch will be slightly suspended from 3 points and will be stable. The black switch base will blend in with the black roadbed and look quite natural.
SOUND DEADENING & VIBRATION ISOLATION
Rubber is one of natures best vibration isolators. Attach the roadbed to the table by driving miniature nails through the rubber at the beveled edge. Do not drive nails through the existing track tie holes. This will assure that the track sits in the rubber completely insulated from the table.
Additional isolation can be achieved by using brown or green indoor outdoor carpet as a base.
PREPARATION OF USED TRACK
Cleaning rusted track can be accomplished with a wire brush. To speed this process, purchase a Shank Mounted Stainless Steel Wire Wheel Brush and chuck it into your power drill. Mount your drill in a vice and move the track rails along the spinning wheel. It works very well and my track has remained rust free for years. Always wear safety glasses with spinning wire wheels.
